Description of mountain:
Frauenkogel is a 683-meter-high hill in the western part of the Graz mountains in Steiermark.
The hill is located not far northwest of Graz.
On the summit of Frauenkogel there was a medieval defensive ring that served as a refuge for women and children from the Straßengel area. As the toponym "Ochsengrube" on the map of the Counts Attems in Gösting indicates, there was also a safe shelter nearby for pets and livestock.
In 1892, a base for the "Goldhannwarte" lookout tower was built from surrounding rock blocks.
The wooden lookout tower was destroyed in a fire in 1908, but the collapsed foundations have been preserved to this day.
