Grad Lušperk

Description of mountain:
Lušperk Castle, also known by its German name Luschberg, was built in the mid-13th century on the property of the Krka Diocese and was administered by the Krka knights of Lušperk. The castle is first indirectly mentioned in historical sources in 1279, when the knight Henrik Lušperški appears in documents. Its fate was sealed in July 1439, when it was violently destroyed and burned by the warriors of the Counts of Celje during mutual conflicts. Although the caretaker was reimbursed for repair costs after the war, the castle never again flourished in its full glory and was finally abandoned around 1502, left to the ravages of time.
The castle ruins are located on a steep hill at an altitude of 571 meters above the confluence of the Dravinja River and the Ljubnica stream in the settlement of Loška Gora near Zreče. Despite centuries of decay, the remains of the walls are still clearly visible, with individual sections of the former defensive wall reaching heights of up to 6 meters and thicknesses exceeding one meter. A deep defensive ditch, which protected the fortification from attacks from the northwest, is also visible at the access to the former castle core, while remains of former rooms inside the walls indicate the floor plan and original size of the fortification.
Access to the ruins is short, easy, and suitable for an excursion in all seasons.
