Description of mountain:
Habicht (Slovenian "kragulj" or goshawk) is a broad and imposing mountain rising high above the Stubai and Obertal valleys. Due to its somewhat isolated position—the highest peak in the Stubai Alps not in the Hochstubai group or Alpeiner Berge range—it is recognizable from afar, and the summit offers an exceptionally outstanding panorama. Before the development of precise surveying instruments, its prominence and might, visible to visitors in Innsbruck and surroundings, often led it to be presumed the highest mountain in Tyrol. Though nearly 500 meters shorter than Wildspitze and more than 200 meters below the Stubai Alps' highest peak, Zuckerhütl, Habicht retains an important role in local tourism development and ranks among the most popular three-thousanders in the wider area.
The view from the summit is exceptional. Due to its height and exposed location, Habicht is a premier vantage point over the Stubai Alps, from which nearly the entire range can be surveyed, along with the glacial expanses of the Ötztal Alps, the Ortler group, and the peaks of the Zillertal Alps. Deep below lie the Stubai Valley, Obertal Valley, and Oberbergbach basin, with views extending to Innsbruck and the Karwendel range above it. Perhaps the most beautiful vistas are toward the bold and appealing Tribulaun peaks; the most enticing view of them is from the pleasant Alfaier Lake, located just below the path to Habicht.
