Pico is Portugal's highest peak and the third highest in the Atlantic Ocean, located on Pico Island in the Azores archipelago. It is an active stratovolcano whose last eruption was in 1720. There is only one trail to the summit. Due to rapidly changing weather, the ascent can be dangerous, but GPS devices available at the trailhead ensure safety.
