Description of mountain:
Pico Ruivo is the highest peak of Madeira Island and the entire Madeira archipelago. Four hiking trails lead to the summit: from Pico Arieiro, from Achada do Teixeira, from Encumeada pass, and from Ilha village. At the summit there are two observation platforms offering excellent views of the entire Madeira; on clear days, even to the neighboring island of Porto Santo. Due to changeable weather, the ascent can be very dangerous.
