Description of mountain:
Sernio (Ital. Monte Sernio / Furlan: Serenât or Crete di Seregnò) is a 2,187 m high mountain in the Carnic Alps in Italy, between the Aupa river valley to the east and the Incaroja valley to the west. Sernio is the highest peak in that part of the range and thus an excellent vantage point. To the east stands the nearby Creta Grauzaria (2,065 m), behind which Zuc dal Bor (Čuk) is visible along with the western part of the Julian Alps led by Montaž. Slightly further south lies the Kanin range. To the west rises the highest peak of the Carnic Alps, Monte Coglians / Hohe Warte, beyond which the Dolomites appear on the horizon. The mountains to the south are lower; among others, Amarina is visible. To the north unfolds another endless chain of peaks with the Vrsic Tauren in the background. A cross stands on the summit of Sernio, with a bell a few dozen meters away. The stamp is available at Rifugio Grauzaria. The mountain is one of 60 peaks included in the point-to-point traverse Vrhovi prijateljstva / Gipfel der Freundschaft / Cime dell'Amicizia. The first ascent was in 1879 by sisters Minetta and Annina Grassi. The easiest approach is from the east, with UIAA grade I difficulty in several places. From the west, the difficulty reaches UIAA II.
