Description of mountain:
Spathi (Gr. Σπαθί) is at 2,148 m the highest mountain of the Dikti massif (Gr. Δικτή) on the Greek island of Crete. Among Crete's three massifs with peaks above 2,000 m, Dikti is the easternmost (alongside Lefka Ori and Psiloritis).
A unique natural wonder is the vast fertile basin-like plain on the Lasithi Plateau at 900 m a.s.l. (Eng. Lasithi plateau, Gr. Οροπέδιο Λασιθίου) beneath the northern chains of the Dikti massif.
From Spathi summit, the nearby Lazaros peak lies to the east at 2,085 m (Gr. Λάζαρος), while to the southwest is Afentis Christos at 2,141 m (Gr. Αφέντης Χρήστος/Ψαρή Μαδάρα).
On the mountain's lower slopes grow East Mediterranean pines, cypresses, and various oaks, while higher up there is low, ankle-high thorny shrubbery that produces honey; here one can observe the Carniolan grey bee (Lat. Apis mellifera carnica) as the dominant species on Cretan highlands (Greeks typically use top-bar hives rather than Slovenian AŽ hives).
