Stare stale

Description of lake:
Planina Stare stale (sometimes also called Stare štale) is a remote mountain cirque located at an altitude of 1634 meters. It is nestled in a closed, wild basin directly below Lučki Dedec and Vežica, high above the deeply incised valley of Lučka Bela.
The main feature of this picturesque location is an almost perfectly regular circular plain with a diameter of approximately 170 meters. The bottom of this grassy depression has a distinct karst character and during spring snowmelt or prolonged autumn rains acts as a temporary high-mountain lake. When the accumulated water sinks into the underground, only a calm spring remains in the middle of the meadow, along which a mountain path leads, and from the upper rocky ledge, during higher water levels, a smaller mountain waterfall picturesquely drums.
The former alpine pasture plain today stands empty without shepherd huts and permanent shelters, giving it an air of pristine high-mountain wilderness. Among connoisseurs of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, it is considered an important mountaineering crossroads. In addition to the official marked path Za Loncem, which leads further towards Korošica, steep and demanding unmarked hunting trails branch off here (for example towards Grofov štant or under Lastovec). The mysteriousness of the ambiance is further complemented by Zijalka pod Starimi štalami – a spacious underground rock shelter, hidden less than 10 minutes' walk away in the direction towards Šibje.
Since the mountain pasture is surrounded by dwarf pine and steep walls, it offers an excellent standalone destination for all who, instead of scenic peaks, seek peace, silence, and complete disconnection from crowded mountain highways.
