Kapelica na Molički planini (Kocbekovo zavetišče pod Ojstrico)

Description of hut:
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius stands on a scenic rise in the middle of the picturesque Molička planina at an altitude of 1780 meters. The original religious structure was built in 1898 and was at that time the highest chapel in the entire area of present-day Slovenia. In the 1950s it was destroyed by a powerful landslide, but in 1989 mountaineers and locals rebuilt it in its original splendor.
Just a few meters below the chapel itself lies the Kocbek Shelter under Ojstrica. This highly important high-mountain outpost is the first Slovenian mountain hut in the Savinja Alps and at the same time the second oldest in all of Slovenia. It was first built in 1894 and underwent its last major renovation in 1999. The shelter is open occasionally and offers visitors and mountaineers basic provisions such as hot tea, coffee and refreshing drinks. It serves as the central starting point and crossroads of trails for ascents to Ojstrica, Lučka Baba and crossings toward Korošica.
From the pasture and from the chapel itself an exceptionally beautiful and unforgettable view opens onto the mighty nearby peaks surrounding the plateau. The view best captures the steep and precipitous Krofička and offers a wonderful deep vista down into the Robanov kot valley.
