Sv. Areh (Vonarje)

Description of church:
The Church of St. Areh in Vonarje is located on a scenic hill above the right bank of the Sotla River. From the top, there is a beautiful view of Obsotelje and the surrounding hills on both the Slovenian and Croatian sides of the border.
The original church was built on this site already in the Middle Ages, acquiring its current Baroque appearance between 1740 and 1745. Architecturally, it is distinguished by a rectangular nave with a semi-circular presbytery and a mighty bell tower with a distinctive onion dome rising along the northern wall, giving the church its characteristic look.
