Schmittenstein is 1695 meter high peak with a cross and is part of the Salzkammergut Mountains. The peak is located 3 km north-northwest from the center of Tauglboden and 4 km east-northeast from the center of Rengerberg and 5 km west of peak Gruberhorn. The nearest mountain hut is Trattnerhütte - Tenneralm, located 1.4km southwest. Mautstation Trattbergstraße is also relatively close. Northeast of the summit is the valley Klausbach.
