Access to starting point:
a) We leave the A4 Zagreb - Varaždin motorway at the Breznički Hum exit and then continue for about a kilometer on the parallel road towards Novi Marof, where we turn left in the direction of Podrut. We drive through the valley past the drinking water spring Curek to the place Jelenšćak, where after crossing the railway tracks we come to a somewhat wider road, where we continue right in the direction of Topličice.
When we arrive in Topličice, after the first part of the settlement and a short section with meadows and pools on the right, just before the second part of the settlement we turn sharply left. The road takes us past the water catchment to the village, where at the first intersection we continue right. After about half a kilometer, at the intersection we turn left. The initially steep road soon levels out and loses its asphalt surface. On a fairly good gravel road after about 2 km we arrive at a small parking lot on the right side of the road under the mountain hut Grebengrad.
b) We leave the A4 Zagreb - Varaždin motorway at the Novi Marof exit and continue right. When we arrive in Topličice, a wooden sign for Grebengrad directs us right onto a narrow road. We drive on it for about a kilometer, where at the intersection we turn right. The initially steep road soon levels out and loses its asphalt surface. On a fairly good gravel road after about 2 km we arrive at a small parking lot on the right side of the road under the mountain hut Grebengrad.
Route description:
From the parking lot we walk along the road to the intersection at the hut. A few more steps on a somewhat steeper cart track separate us from the hut. Straight ahead leads the direct path to Veliki Lubenjak and Čevo, but we continue left past the abandoned house and further along the cart track. After about five minutes we arrive at a fork, where a short path branches off to the left to the ruins of Grebengrad castle.
We continue right along the cart track, which ascends unevenly to the next fork. Here the direct path from the hut joins us from the right. Slightly left along the cart track continues towards Čevo, but we continue sharply left onto the path. The junction is not marked, because the summit is no longer an HPO point. The path is initially gentle, then passes into a belt of forest, where we arrive at a cross in the meadow below the summit. Here the well-trodden path ends. Behind the cross we find a passage into the forest and carefully follow the path. After about five minutes of steep ascent we arrive at the summit covered with forest. A few meters further there is a concrete pillar, but the HPO stamp is unfortunately no longer there.
The description and pictures refer to the situation in August 2026.
