Good that you wrote how some parents treat children in the mountains. It's also right to warn such an irresponsible father on the spot or even report him to the police and thus prevent the father's further abuse of the children. For you it's surely an unpleasant task, yet it's about two young lives, for which it's worth exposing yourselves.
