This recreational circling of Triglav is annoying to all visitors, and it shouldn't be.

"Coverage is provided for rescue costs up to an altitude of 6,000 meters, for alpinism and sport climbing up to 5,000 meters."

PZS has a sense of humor.

With these "house" brands the biggest problem is lack of consistency in quality. You're never quite sure what you'll get. If I take Intersport's McKinley - some things are so badly made, from worst materials, that after short use and few washes they start losing shape and properties (when washing I normally follow manufacturer's instructions). Hiking t-shirts and shirts start pilling where contact with backpack?! Or shrinking. Meanwhile some serve me for long years without issues.

I'd even say I have better consistency experiences e.g. with Hofer's Crane - which is extremely cheap, but always delivers basic usability and exemplary durability. Can't say that for McKinley, because it's not that cheap, but priced in between, and disappointed several times. But design is better than Hofer's stuff and more usable cuts.

From Quechua I have e.g. rain hat, which after first wash (per instructions) lost water repellency. Repeat: rain hat lost water repellency. But later I found out - in comments on their website - that many of their products lose water repellency after washing. And I doubt people are such idiots pouring softener and washing at high temperatures.

So I don't know what to think, because on the other hand I'm not tempted to pay 200€ for some almost basic Mammut pants.

Classic ones interest me, nothing technical. There's no rapid progress in development here, right?

The price is comparable to the above-mentioned brands. I have a philosophy of preferring to support smaller manufacturers over corporations.

Does anyone have experience with the Austrian manufacturer Stubai?

Are the ice axes comparable to brands like Petzl, Black Diamond, Grivel?

Good, I wouldn't descend to Koritnica exactly. I had something closer to the starting point in mind.
garmin4. 09. 2013 21:03:22
OK, if there's a big chance something flies at you, then I get it.

Which is the most comfortable descent, down I wouldn't wanna go in ascent direction?
garmin4. 09. 2013 19:18:24
I'm curious how "hard" this Vevnica really is. Do you really need self-protection for the ascent? Asking from the perspective of someone who's already done some in these our mountains.
garmin31. 08. 2013 21:43:51
As I see you went without rope from Staničev vrh, was it problematic?
garmin30. 08. 2013 16:51:13
Of course it's possible. Where there's a will, there's a way. If people endure -40° in the Himalayas with only minor frostbites, the devil if you won't manage 2° on Triglav.

Let this be consolation when you'll curse every shadow on the path all day and the northwest wind that's forecast.

"No question is stupid."

Hehe. That's a good one. I say, don't test me with that wisdom.

We got a bit off track. Of course I didn't literally mean that men are discriminated against.

I just wanted to illustrate that Irina's argumentation doesn't prove anything and it's not worth responding to without thinking.

For clarification, I'll list some otherwise obvious things:

Absolute physical strength of a man is undoubtedly more attractive in endurance/speed sports than a woman's. Such a spectacle as Usain Bolt's 100m sprint can't be achieved by the women's category. That doesn't discriminate against women at all, but in absolute terms it's simply not equally interesting.
If any lady is cursing me right now because of this statement, she should ask herself the name of the fastest female sprinter in the same discipline - the current record holder. The average portal visitor probably doesn't know it. Which is even more controversial given that the record has stood for 25 years.

In general, we are predisposed with a tendency to be attracted to bigger, faster and stronger things. Physiologically that's the male sex. The men's category in the run to Grintovec is the one breaking time records and arriving first. That's how it is.

If the first woman finishes this year, we're probably all for her getting the highest prize offered.

garmin26. 07. 2013 09:25:57
This Irina's comparison with Kathrine Switzer and the prize pool of the Grintovec run is a bit far-fetched.

I think men are discriminated against here.

258 men and 45 women are registered.
Prize goes to 5% best men and 15% best women.

For fair distribution, only the first two should receive it.
garmin14. 09. 2012 10:19:11
Will you give some reasoning or just talking off the cuff?
garmin13. 08. 2012 12:37:54
@LidijaJesih it seems I didn't explain precisely enough what I had in mind. I'd go along the marked hiking trail; the one from Vrata. My guidebook is quite old (Mihelič - Northern Approaches) and it didn't yet have a description of the marked hiking trail over Sfinga. So now I'm in doubt whether they've marked the path by now - so that poor me doesn't get lost on it - or if I missed something on the forum.
