I haven't been up, but I noticed SVK among "recommended gear"... since two friends are coming with me who rarely go to the mountains, I decided to ask...
promet.si says the road to Mangart saddle is passable to kilometer 9, where there is an arranged temporary parking lot.
I'm interested if anyone knows how far it is from that km 9 to the saddle.

Is the road to Mangart saddle passable to the starting point of the Italian route?
Do you recommend using a self-belay kit? I planned to take only a helmet against falling rocks...
