@lijaneja, that's a podlesek, belongs among rodents. But it should be somewhere in a tree hollow or crack. I hope everything was okay with it.

@julius, he'll find anothermežikanje. White storks have no permanent partners, so it's very likely that you haven't observed the same individuals every year.

@velkavrh, yes it's a merganser, specifically common merganser (Mergus merganser), species spreading quite a bit lately to new streams in Slovenia. Left is male, right female.

That's right, the coal tit is smaller and has a white patch on the nape, white bars on the wings. It also has no yellow or blue color.

@stanes, on your photo there are 3 great tits. Walnuts are very suitable food for birds, cheese we better save for ourselves, as it has quite a lot of salt, birds also cannot digest lactose. They also don't encounter such food in naturenasmeh.

@mirank, thanks for the data!

Hi,
the crane migration season is starting! These are large, noisy birds that fly in V-shaped flocks. In Slovenia we are collecting data on their migration, so we ask you to forward information about observations of migrating flocks. Important data are date and time, location, number of individuals (estimate), direction and flight altitude. Thanks and best
Janez

For the absence of birds in such a small area as a garden there are many reasons. The first is that individuals we see around the house in summer mostly don't stay with us in winter either, but wander a few km or tens of km around. To our feeders come birds from elsewhere.
The second reason is related to the first - as said, birds wander around in winter, so it's possible that there are fewer one year, more another. For example, there are really a lot at ours this year.
The third is related to the warm weather in recent days. Birds always prefer food in nature (feeders usually represent at most 10% of all their diet) and since in these warm days they find enough, they don't visit feeders so often.
If there is any more question, I'll gladly answernasmeh

In the photo it's a wood pigeon (Columba palumbus). Both the Eurasian collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto) and the wood pigeon belong to the pigeon family (f. Columbidae).

@darinka4 in the photos it's a young red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio). Nice that you rescued itnasmeh

Hi,
I report that on 13.7. water was flowing from the spring at approx. 1dcl per minute, this morning it's just dripping.
@franca, the spring is on the W part of the pasture, at the water intake.
plezac12. 07. 2022 20:51:11
Hi,
does anyone know if the spring on the pasture is active?

Best regards, Janez

@Stone, yes, it really is a rock thrush! Amazing!
plezac6. 05. 2022 19:35:51
@geppo, very interesting! It's the green toad (Bufotes viridis), a rare species in Slovenia. It eats many pests!
