I think you're a bit off about the elevations. Are you talking about the shorter or longer route? I did 64km last year and Garmin recorded 2184 elevation meters.

The problem is probably that they think how tourists in sandals will reach our summits.

All of you arguing forget one little thing, vastness. When reading your comments one gets the feeling that by paraphrasing 50 km² (square kilometers) = 5000 km² etc. Towns, ranges are diverse and so are related measures.
