On 03.07.2010 I set off across Pohorje. I started in Hoče at 04:00, walked in the dark almost to Mariborska koča and then continued over Areh, Klopni vrh, Pesek, Lovrenška jezera, Ribniška koča, Grmovškov dom, small and big Kope, where a strong thunderstorm with hail caught me to koča pod Kremžarjevim vrhom. Here I changed clothes and continued the path to Slovenj Gradec, arriving at 17:30. Net walking time was 12 hours, the rest I spent along the path, at huts and at Lovrenška jezera. The path was very nice and a good tour for building fitness for summer tours in the "high mountains". Up to koča na Pesku I met no hikers, maybe because it was a weekday, between Pesek and Lovrenška jezera only one couple, then between the lakes and Ribniška koča somewhat more people and between Ribniška koča and Slovenj Gradec no one again. Also on the path I met no quad drivers nor motorbikers. Since I currently hike a lot in Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe I didn't manage to report. Well, now I have found enough time to fulfill the promise to report when this path is behind me. There were some photos too, but there are already so many on the web that there is nothing new. Good luck!

Pohodni, congrats. I see it can be done nicely in one day too. I didn't do the planned hike due to lots of rain the week before and was skeptical because of mud. So I postponed it to July. I was on Golica though, where it was also very nice. Will report back when the Pohorje trail is done.

Thanks for the replies, accommodation at Pesek is already booked. When I finish the trail, I'll write something short and attach some photos. B.R.

One more thing! I'm closest to sleeping at Pesek. So I ask for approx. time at normal, medium pace from Slovenj Gradec to Ribniška koča and then to Pesek. Need info to not arrive at Pesek too late, since we plan to start from Slovenj Gradec around 13:00. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for kindness and answers. First question. Do I have to go from Slovenj Gradec to Maribor via Rogla? Think there's shorter path without Rogla. My plan: Probably 3-4 go, none crossed Pohorje yet. If group changes mind I'll go alone. Alone maybe one day. Fit, just ran marathon in Radenci, last year some hikes (day trip Poljčane-Boč-Donačka gora-back...) so no problem. Only issue don't know path. If overnight: day1 morning/noon to Slovenj Gradec, after coffee to Ribniška koča sleep. Day2 to Maribor all foot no gondola etc., live at Pohorje foot walk home. geppo. Nice path desc, how far Slovenj Gradec to Kop. Gasilec your desc helps, must via Rogla? Thanks again all.

Soon I plan to hike the transversal path across Pohorje. Since it is my first time, I ask if someone can send me some photos of the path; then I am interested where it is best to sleep (in case of 2 days). I plan to go from Slovenj Gradec towards Maribor, so where in Slovenj Gradec to start the path to Pohorje and how far one can get in one day at moderate-medium pace. Thanks!
