When I read these forums, I have to laugh too, what some write. I think private life (who washes whose dirty laundry) has nothing to do with safe hikes in mountains. Some are lucky that parents took them on paths from a young age, some weren't that lucky. So I also started quite late to venture into mountains and I'm glad for every post here.
We can be happy that someone gives us info on conditions, so no more accidents happen.
Since I often go alone and still fulfill myself on paths, sometimes a companion would come in handy to guide me right.
In winter I haven't hiked alone yet and I'm a bit scared of snow hikes, so every advice is welcome.
