Hi!

I'm new to hiking and need some idea for a trip with the dog. So looking for mountains/hills that are also less visited in these summer weekends and no fixed ropes, walls to climb on the path...
Last Sunday we were at Kurji vrh and it was great, didn't meet a soul. I have a friendly dog, but it's big and not everyone likes dogs.
Would be happy for any suggestion. Thanks

Which path from Prtovča is easier in the snow, over Razor or Povden? Especially, I have in mind the possibility of slipping. Thanks for the answer

I know it's not even safe to go to the store in this weather. But I'm wondering if there's any hillock that will be safe in a day or two (no falling trees danger, no ice on path or snow with crust on top tearing dogs' knee ligaments). We haven't gone even for a walk for a couple of days and won't until they remove that dangerous snow with 'crust', so I'm prepared to drive farther to stretch our legs a bit.

Thanks for answers

On the path from Krn Lake to Krn there are still some small snow patches, which cause no problems.

VanSims I disagree with you on most things (regarding dogs), but here you're completely right.
I too would ban breeding 'deformed' breeds, so-called brachycephalic breeds (mainly thinking of pugs, bulldogs...). What we do with these breeds is not humane, since 90% of these dogs would need surgery on the upper respiratory tract to function normally. Above all, owners of such dogs need to be informed, I think many before buying don't know that their dog won't manage normal exertion and thus won't have a quality life, especially in summer.
At least with boxers the situation is improving a bit, since in Switzerland they banned their breeding precisely because of these problems and one breeder there has embarked on creating a new breed continental boxer, whose head anatomy is being corrected.
With smooth-faced breeds unfortunately we still tend towards shortening the muzzle and bigger problems...

I know off topic, but still

I also started going to the mountains just because of the dog, now it's totally hooked me and I really enjoy the mountains but I can't imagine going anywhere without my faithful companion, so of course I won't go where you have to climb a bit, but there are enough other hills where we can both enjoy without fear.
Since I'm a student I have the chance to go to the mountains also during the week when there aren't so many people, in any case I prefer paths with less traffic. Even popular peaks usually have paths where you don't meet a soul.
I myself haven't had bad experiences because of the dog yet. At the top I always leash her, if we meet someone on the way I move her off the path and she sits nicely while people pass. Sometimes people are right around the corner and I can't move her fast enough but she doesn't push into people, in such situations she goes by nicely.
Signs though.... no comment. Not only have I noticed "dog on leash" signs, on the path from Ljubelj to Zelenica even that the dog must be on leash and muzzled (mid summer, in the sun, hiking uphill and don't allow the dog to cool with the only possible way - tongue), on one path to Gonte I even noticed a sign (middle of asphalted road) "forbidden for dogs and cyclists". People are impatient, I don't want to be a conflict person and I know I won't get anywhere arguing on the forum, so I ignore such posts.

On Sunday the larches were still completely green, so we need to wait a bit more.

Super, thanks. Now the plans for tomorrow have sadly collapsed, hope I still find time before the worsening.

Oh, what impatience. Today I went to Vrtaško sleme, of course with my little dog, and met quite a few hikers and from no one did I get the feeling that it was unpleasant for them because the dog went past them.

But are dogs for the couch, not for nature? I only started going to the mountains this year and exactly because I now have a dog, because I see how it enjoys wandering around all day. Today she was quite tired after the hike, otherwise the usual biggest problem is getting her back into the car after the hike, because she thinks it's much nicer to walk around than to be at home.

I never hike alone, but I rarely have human company. My dog is enough for me and since I have her anyway I don't go on demanding paths. She protects me from my stubbornness and adrenaline feats, if I constantly worried about tripping I wouldn't even go to the store..

But I believe that on demanding paths it's completely different.

I also, without a dog, wouldn't go to the mountains this week. Now to the sea, next week I hope for some cooling and a nice hike in solitude.

Yeah, the pic is a bit from afar. This is a mix, half golden retriever and half big black x dad =)
Can't imagine how you could lift her.

Super solution, for me completely unsuitable (bitch has almost 40kg) =). On rocks she's already quite learned to walk (this year first time in mountains), we'll avoid climbing feats anyway.
