The natural environment is the main attraction of the valley, inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage sites primarily because it is an exceptional testimony of how the landscape was redesigned during the Renaissance to reflect the ideals of good government and create an aesthetically pleasing image, and also because the same landscape was celebrated by the painters of the Sienese School of the Renaissance period. The photos have a gentle profile, broken by cypresses and solitary farmhouses, often converted into agritourisms and relais.
