Description: Of the once mighty mountaintop castle Kienburg, which looms over steeply falling rocks, only extremely collapse-prone building parts and wall remnants remain today.<br>The castle was first mentioned in 1184. In 1579 a devastating fire occurred that practically destroyed all wooden structures. Afterward, only the stone residential tower was provisionally repaired. Around 1660, the damage to the buildings and walls was already so great that the Kienburg was left to further decay. By 1769 parts had already collapsed.
