Description:
15-06-2022: Lake Bled is a glacial lake located in the northwest area of Slovenia, precisely in the town of Bled. Surrounded by mountains and with an island in the center, Slovenia's only one, it is no coincidence that it attracts many tourists every year. It will be the castle on the cliff, or perhaps the beauty of the surrounding nature, or the beautiful boat rides, but Lake Bled is a must-see destination. On board a traditional wooden boat, called pletna of Bled, guided by a boatman who pushes with oars standing up, you reach the island in the center of the lake. A very long staircase consisting of 99 steps will welcome you and, obviously, you have to climb them all to reach the real attraction of the island: the church of Santa Maria Annunziata, the little church is really cute and, above all, by climbing the bell tower you can ring the legendary wish bell. The church bell carries legendary tales with it. For example, it is said that it was cast by a widow in memory of her deceased husband and that it ended up at the bottom of the lake after a storm. Every Christmas the legend is reenacted during a very popular event among tourists and locals: divers dive into Lake Bled and bring to the surface the bell sunk centuries ago. Bled Castle. Bled Castle is certainly among the things to see at Lake Bled. Let's say that the spectacular view it offers over Lake Bled alone is worth the visit! In fact, as soon as you climb you can admire Lake Bled, Bled Island and the entire Gorenjska area with its high peaks. Then, inside you can have various experiences, such as discovering the museum collection, traditional printing techniques in the print shop (where you can make a document as a souvenir). You can taste Slovenian wines in the cellar, which are very famous, taste the famous Bled Cake at the bar. Don't forget to observe the well in the lower courtyard and the many creations on display in the blacksmith's shop. The Church of San Martino, which rises on the road leading to the castle. A neo-Gothic church built to a design by Friedrich von Schmidt, the architect who created Vienna's town hall. Inside it is possible to admire splendid frescoes, Gothic architecture and several fine Carrara marble sculptures by important Slovenian artists. A visit is worth it in my opinion. In addition to visiting the island and the Castle, you can walk the six-kilometer trail around the lake, or treat yourself to a carriage ride.
