Ammergauer Kreuzspitze and Kreuzspitzerl (traverse)

Make use of one of the last sunny autumn days? Why not on the highest peak of the Bavarian Ammergau? Kreuzspitze. From the north on the normal route to the summit structure, a varied, sweaty but easy mountain hike. At the summit ascent, the first scrambling spot is tricky for the less experienced, the rest is walking terrain with some 'hand and foot' spots - no problem for mountaineers, hill walkers need to grab a bit and watch carefully. A helmet in the flank isn't entirely out of place - but not mandatory. Rather nothing for hill walkers, but for us mountaineers the real treat is the traverse to Kreuzspitzl over an initially airy ridge. The first 'key section' is defused by a chain. Then it goes good-naturedly with great views until the notch before Kreuzspitzl. Straight ahead there's climbing, slightly right with a small chimney it's easier but still a bit demanding, or you can descend a few meters right and bypass the climbing sections via a gully in grade 1 terrain; however, the gully is rockfall-prone, a helmet really calms there. Then another 100 meters up to Kreuzspitzl with its small stoamandl, from there down a comfortable grass hump and on a varied narrow trail take the long way back to the start. From Kreuzspitze you're relatively alone by the way - and yes, this part is rather unsuitable for children. Those traveling leisurely should reckon seven hours - seven hours in magnificent, varied nature.
