Máré Castle is a small fortress in the northern, wild and wooded dense forest of the Mecsek Mountains, on a 340-meter-high, steep, forested mountain peak. It is also called Magyaregregy Castle, after the nearby village. It was certainly built after the Tatar invasion, but its first mention is in a charter from 1316. The castle probably perished in a fire in the 16th century, as documents from the end of the 17th century already mention it as an abandoned ruin on the property of the Bishop of Pécs.
