From Hammerstiel parking lot along the toboggan run northwards around Schapbachriedel with moderate ascent. After a nice wayside shrine we slide briefly downhill, then hike flat to the junction with the access road from Wimbachbrücke to Kührointalm. Follow this gravel road past Schapachalm to the sharp left bend (Benzinkurve) in the upper valley. A sign points straight to a hollow way into the steep mountain forest. Follow it in a right loop and traverse west to a forest clearing. Here leave the path left and ascend the very steep clearing in countless switchbacks. Before a steep step, traverse along summer markers a steep forest slope left to the rock faces of Kleiner Watzmann. We meet the hiking trail from Kührointalm and follow it right steeply uphill into sparse larch woods. Ascend tending left near the west wall of Kleiner Watzmann over medium-steep forest slopes to a rock ridge that can be overcome easily on the left. Behind it we reach the tree-less Watzmannkar. Between rock blocks ascend directly to the nose of the central, imposing rock formation of the Fourth Watzmannkind (Jungfrau). Left the main path leads to the Third Watzmannkind. But we turn right and follow a winding valley to a plateau in the west part of Watzmannkar. Traversing left to avoid height loss leads involuntarily to the foot of the very steep northwest slope of the Fifth Watzmannkind.
