Description:
First part of the video in the Zillertal Alps, a subsection of the Western Tauern Alps, on the border between South Tyrol and Tyrol. Starting from the last parking lot of the Val di Vizze, after about 500 meters of altitude difference I reached the Vizze Pass, where the hut of the same name is located (Pfitscherjochhaus), at 2276 meters above sea level. Built in 1888, it was the first private mountain refuge in South Tyrol. A few meters from here passes the border between Italy and Austria. Once I have crossed into Tyrol, I continued along the upper panoramic path 528 towards the Olpererhütte, reached in about 3 and a half hours including stops. The refuge is located in an enviable position at 2389 meters with a breathtaking view of the artificial lake Schlegeisspeicher and the giants of this section of the Alps: Greinermauer, Großer Grainer, Talggenköpfe, Großer Möseler / Grande Mesule, Breitnock, Hoher Weißzint / Punta Bianca, Hochfeiler / Gran Pilastro, Hochferner / Gran Vedretta, Hintereweissspitze, Vorderer Weißspitz / Cima di Sopramonte, Rotbachlspitze / Croda Rossa, Rotes Beil / Punta Rossa and Wurmaulspitze / Cima Valmala. Behind the hut stands the Olperer, which gives its name to the refuge. This structure is famous for the suspension bridge which, if taken from a certain angle, gives the impression of being suspended in the void. In reality, the walkway allows you to cross a detrital basin located only 2-3 meters below it. Here you can also find the beautiful and well-kept winter room of the refuge, one of the most beautiful in the Alps. It is equipped with 12 beds divided into two separate rooms, blankets, mattresses, pillows, a table, a stove, a kitchen area with pots and various tools and even a bathroom. The refuge can obviously also be reached from Tyrol in about two hours by walking 3 km starting from the artificial lake Schlegeisspeicher. The difference in altitude in this case is just under 600 meters, while the route I took requires about 5 hours, 11 km and 1050 meters of difference in altitude. After passing the night here and descending to the lake, the hike continues in the next video...
