Description: Medieval castle Kokořín from DJI Mavic Air drone, in morning light. Castle Kokořín is located approximately 10 kilometers northeast of the city of Mělník on a rocky promontory above the Pšovka river near the municipality of Kokořín. It was built after 1320 by the Prague burgrave Hynek Berka of Dubá. As for the further history of the castle, several owners succeeded it, who gradually stopped taking care of it and in the 19th century only ruins remained. In 1896, the Kokořín estate including the ruins was bought by Václav Špaček, a nobleman from Starburg. He began extensive reconstruction of the castle, which was completed in 1918 by his son Jan. It was the first comprehensively conceived rescue of a medieval ruin in Bohemia and its opening to the public. After 1950, based on land reform laws, the castle passed into state ownership. It was only in 2006 that the castle returned to the hands of the heirs of the Špaček family, who intend to continue the family tradition and continue to preserve this popular monument for the public.
