Description: Monte Canin is the highest peak of the splendid mountain massif separating Val Raccolana from Val Resia and the Slovenian valley of Bovec. In a low-snow season, the north slopes of this beautiful group guarantee good snow cover, offering winter sports lovers a great playground. Canin offers several ascent routes, the shortest undoubtedly from the north via the well-equipped Via Ferrata Julia. I climb it the first Saturday of April starting from Sella Nevea, using the cable car to Rif. Gilberti, from where the real tour begins. Unfortunately, clouds spoil some of the splendid panorama the summit can offer, but reaching it with a nice group of friends is still satisfying.
