Mount Denali, formerly known as Mount McKinley, is the highest mountain in North America, with an altitude of 6190 m asl. It is located in the Alaska Range, in the center-south of the state of Alaska (USA). Despite not being one of the world's highest, the elevation gain to overcome (about 4000 m from base camp), along with low temperatures due to its proximity to the Arctic Circle, make Denali one of the most challenging peaks to ascend. The name Denali means "the Great One" in Athabascan languages.
