When mountaineers go on expeditions to high mountains today, we can be at our target after just a few days. Therefore, it is very hard to imagine that once the journey to these mountains alone took as long as an entire expedition does today. One such was our first expedition to the Hindukuš range in 1968. The expedition led by the legendary Aleš Kunaver was very successful, as they achieved three first ascents and one virgin ascent. This gained them experience and confidence for later goals in the Himalaya. Additionally, Aleš had a film camera with him and filmed a lot of footage that has invaluable archival value today.
