Description: The monastery complex is surrounded by enclosure walls from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. These walls are partially reinforced by round towers with battlements. The monastery was founded around 1153 by Count Ulrich II von Pernegg as a choir women's foundation and settled with nuns from the Launiowitz foundation belonging to Seelau. After plunderings and the death of the last choir woman in 1585, the monastery was taken over by the Geras canons. As a result of the Josephinian church reforms, the monastery was completely dissolved and the furnishings auctioned. In 1854, Emperor Franz Joseph transferred ownership of the Pernegg property back to the Geras canons' foundation. In 1940, Geras and Pernegg were confiscated; Geras served as accommodation for resettlers and Pernegg as a Reich Labor Service camp.
