Description: The former castle guarded the entrance to the Helenental together with the opposite Rauhenstein fortress. Rauheneck was the ancestral castle of the widely branched ministerial family of the Rauheneggers in the Middle Ages, who called themselves Tursen after 1200. The castle is first mentioned in 1137 in the salbook of Göttweig Abbey with a 'Hartunc de Rauhenekk'.
