10/4/16 Winter ascent with snowshoes
ITINERARY. From the parking lot (signs for Bivacco Corti and Rifugio Pesciola) a track starts (evident even with lots of snow) which, with several switchbacks, reaches and passes the baite di Masone di sotto (1140 m). Further on (1345 m) you come across a marked junction (no-entry sign; Parco delle Orobie sign; indicator sign for various destinations, including Rifugio Pesciola). Climb to the left and reach in a few minutes the wide Foppe plateau (approx. 1360 m). In front of us, to the south, the beautiful and wild head of Valle Armisa appears with the unmistakable dark profile of Dente di Coca. Now climb eastwards on nice slopes: first reach Baite Moretti (1460 m) and then, almost at the edge of the dark conifer wood, Baite Campèi (or Campelli, 1647 m). Here change direction: head south on a nice path; at about 1840 m, in an area of sparse trees, aim south-east approaching the steeper slopes rising to the ridge on our left (east). At about 1920 m identify a sort of “corridor” in the wood rising northwards: follow it and then pass through a sort of very short canyon; immediately after climb first right then left (north) reaching the panoramic shoulder where the small Rifugio Baita Pesciola is located (2005 m; 2 hrs 15 mins from parking). Descent along the same itinerary (1 hr 20 mins).
