The Allalinhorn is 4,027 m high and rises in the Mischabel ridge between Saastal in the east and Mattertal in the west. It is located in the eponymous Allalin group in the Valais Alps. Since the mid-1980s, a tunnel railway (Métro alpin) runs there to Mittelallalin (3,456 m). The Allalinhorn has been well accessible since then – some would even say over-accessible. Particularly critical voices call the Allalinhorn since the development by the tunnel railway even „Altweiberviertausender“. Undoubtedly, the requirements have been significantly simplified by the Métro – only 580 meters of elevation gain need to be overcome from Mittelallalin to the summit.
