Description:
Very little is known about the relatively short history of the castle. Neither the time of its construction nor the reason for its destruction is known. Steinegg is first mentioned around 1210, when a Cholo 'de Steinekke' appears as a witness in a charter of Duke Leopold VI. The Lords of Steinegg were originally ministeriales of the Babenbergs.
