This royal castle from the 13th century became the center of the Topoľčany castle estate. In the 15th century it was occupied by Hussites, during Turkish raids it fulfilled an important defensive function. At the beginning of the 18th century, it was severely damaged by imperial troops during the Rákóczi uprising. Although it was later repaired, it gradually began to decay.
