The crowning finale of our 10 MTB tours experience in VALLE MAIRA: 'La Gardetta'

For the 2nd time within 10 days we fight our way this time from Ponte Marmora back up to our actual starting point Marmora Vernetti and via Canosio and Preit the steep asphalt road to Colle Preit. After 15 km hardcore tarmac uphill it's another 5 km on rough steep gravel road first to Rifugio Gardetta 2335 m - where we of course stopped again for pasta and drinks - and strengthened fight the last km to Passo della Gardetta on bumpy terrain. Pure bliss at 2437 m with dreamy panorama over the entire Gardetta plateau and to the northern Cottian peaks in imperial weather and summer heat. We enjoy this magical moment and time stands still briefly and the peaks circle around us. Then pure adrenaline. Tense we start the Gardetta trail and greedily suck in the flow from the trail. A true 'Lotto 6er'! which only briefly at the bunkers forces us to dismount, continue in flow feeling, but always mindful of the trail surface, in between quite tricky sections and another blocked step requiring dismount, but in the finale guarantees full flowtrail enjoyment. Like in a trance we reach Prato Corliero at Grange Calandra and follow the wide gravel alpine path to the junction Colle Ciarbonet, which we climbed days before - and which can also be combined with the Gardetta tour with good fitness. For us however descent on the steep tarmac road past Rif. Viviere and Pratorontondo as well as Chialvetta to Acceglio and cruise easily the main road back to Ponte Marmora, where we are glad we parked the car there and don't have to overcome the 275 uphill Hm (which we managed in the morning) back to our hotel mountain village Locanda Ceaglio. First we quench our great thirst with Birra Moretti and in the evening celebrate with the daily 7-course menu and Genepy as well as Grappa.
