Description: The impressive rocky peak Vyšehrad (829 m a.s.l.), geographically belonging to the Žiar Mountains, is known primarily for its rich history. Rising on the border between Ponitrie and Turiec, it represented a strategically important place from which an important trade route across Europe, the so-called Amber Road, could be controlled. Its summit area was declared a national nature reserve. There is rare forest-steppe vegetation and numerous protected insect species. From the summit, there is a magnificent view of Turiec and the upper part of Ponitrie.
