There are so many mountains there, you can spot the next one every day on the spot. Similar to Austria. You just need one phone call to plan routes to them in the evenings. nasmeh

Kafetarca,
I was in the same spot two years ago. I went to La Ila (La Villa, Stern) and it was so cool that I returned again two years ago and repeated the visit this year too. Two years ago straight from home on foot to Sassongher, great tour, this year also from home on foot to Piz de Puez, in between a little sea of mountains. Nearby Corvara, Passo Gardena, Falzarego, Capana Alpina not far, for Conturines, Lavarelo etc. In the fairly close area you have ferratas, marked and unmarked paths. To many surrounding starting points you get by bus, which runs quite often. At least end of July. Peek here a bit, and up there in the mountains plenty to find, personally I really like La Ila and will definitely return.

"Kafetarca", I'd like to encourage you for the Dolomites, you won't regret it.
Overnight (hotel, apartment, rooms) we search on Booking. Always something turns up somewhere in different price ranges. We most often take an apartment at Campolongo pass between Corvara and Arabba. If moving by car back and forth is no problem for you, you can do interesting hikes, outings, tours if you want.
From here you could go on foot towards Piz Boe and Lago di Boe, to Setsas, across the Cherz and Pralongia meadows.
Not too far to Passo Gardena and Seceda.
From Colfosco near Corvara you can ascend Sassongher.
From Passo Falzarego you can go to Lagazuoi, Strio.
Also not too far to the starting point for Cinque Torri, Nuvolau, Tofana di Rozes.
A bit further to drive to the lower station of the cable car for Marmolada - interesting outing.
Almost all ascent descriptions are on Hribi.
Starting points are usually around 2000m. Parkings are sometimes paid, sometimes free.
The region is purely tourist-oriented, some livestock farming too, so expect lots of people in summer. At certain points huge crowds, elsewhere not. Seems to me I listed exactly the most crowded spots. But nowhere bad mood, everyone takes care of their own relaxation and enjoyment in nature. Everything is marked.
Shops are small but have everything you need to prepare something to eat.
Of course huts, restaurants etc. available.
First time it's always like that, you search and grope because you don't know the area, but every year it gets better and you'll enjoy the mountains according to your abilities (physical) and wishes.
For me personally the Dolomites mean increasingly direct contact with mountains, which I'm slowly losing in Slovenia. Slowly saying goodbye to all-day tours with lots of elevation gain and getting up at 4am. Dolomites offer high starting points, which is great.
Already this year I'm barely waiting for next summer.
Decide and go, you really won't regret it.

Try to find B&B in Pfalzen, Chalet Kristel - I think that's it. It's a B&B.
A few years ago we vacationed there. Dolomites are quite close.
Well, you do have to drive a bit.
When we go on vacation we rent an apartment, of course for ten days, then we're mobile there with the car.
So we know South Tyrol quite well.
Best regards!

I'd recommend starting points La Villa, Colfosco, Corvara or Canazei. I always check accommodations via booking but book directly at the hotel because it's noticeably cheaper. Best Miha

Another vote for La Villa (been there three years in a row) or nearby already mentioned places and I'll definitely return. As predecessors wrote tons of different options both in length and difficulty of paths. If you can maybe advise against August due to crowds. If you're early at the starting point (and that's from my experience for Dolomites up to 7:00 mežikanje) you practically get free parking everywhere. Maybe a tip for booking. You can get good price directly from providers.

Safe steps.

If you go to Dolomites once, you must definitely see Tre Cime up close - there's a path around it you do in three hours. Nearby something harder - Monte Paterno and Torre de Toblin. If you go to 5 Torri, Averau and Nuvolau are nearby - very scenic points.

In picture 11 are the jagged Cadini di Misurina.
If I remember right it's at the end of the path:

That should hold. Here you start descending from Auronzo direction. Nice and demanding path, beautiful landscape nasmeh
