I was probably among the first a few years ago when this D/E ferrata on Säuleck opened, but again it's not some terrible thing, so I don't know why so much talk. Significantly harder is, say, on Torre Clampil. The normal descent path seemed more annoying to me due to the scree labyrinth, so I did the next ascent in winter when everything was nicely snow-covered from Geißener Hütte, which is at the other end. 9 hours is quite a lot, of course possible in 6-7 hours up and down.

9 hours for an average hiker who likes to take pictures and take time is totally ok, I believe the faster ones can do it in 6 or 7 hours too... The traverse in the chapel can be climbed without using pegs so really nothing special. Otherwise true that we all have our level of ability and not everyone is equally physically and mentally capable... Otherwise that in Eisenkapelle is pure D, that can't be D/E at all...

On Thursday morning we headed to Säuleck. At 6 am we arrived at the parking lot below the dam and slowly started up the Buderusweg path to the summit. The path to the hut was nice, views already very beautiful then as the sun was shining on the surrounding peaks. When we reached the hut, fog started rising in the valley. Slowly we continued, taking several breaks for photos. The path was very interesting as we had no experience walking on such rocks. We crossed a couple of snowfields and around 1 pm reached the summit. There we took a longer break and slowly headed back to the valley. Right after the initial descent we turned left off-path (so we didn't go around the hill again and to make the tour a bit more interesting). The off-path was quite demanding, there was also some free climbing down. We crossed the glacial moraine and reached the traverse path. From there back to the hut and on to the cars. At the parking lot at 18:00, all tired and full of enthusiasm from the beautiful moments experienced on the ascent. That day there were very few tourists, on the path we also spotted two marmots Highly recommend the hike to the mountain, it's not difficult, but you need some fitness because there's a lot of walking.

If we get enough experience over the summer then maybe next year via ferrata too. Probably next year we'll reserve more for Slovenian climbing paths, in 2 years we'll most likely be qualified enough for this ferrata, if not then nothing wrong @lumi: If racing is aimed at us, we went sensibly, took lots of time for ourselves, given that the path is normally passable one way in 5:30 hours, so we were quite a bit slower

Has anyone gone to Säuleck recently via the easy path? What are the conditions? Thanks!

The weather ideal, path on the usual "easy" without special features, snow there is but it can be crossed, hike done in 12 hours car to car with all intermediate stops (photos, food and admiring nature) LP!

We were on Säuleck a day before PD Iskra Kranj. Participation on the tour fell into that category "it can't be true, but it is" . We more or less "out of politeness" asked our newly minted adult if she would join us. I don't remember anymore when the last time the answer was anything different than "I'd like to go, but... ... Well, this time she shot out like from a cannon "oh yes, I'm going, gladly"... . An answer worth checking the temperature for, or even to the ER, to see if nothing seriously wrong! Well, we went, comfortably split everything into two days (or day and a half), so first day late afternoon to the hut, slept over, next day early to the summit and back to the valley. Landscape-wise beautiful and varied path, views above standard, for both daughters the summit additionally tempting also because it was the first three-thousander for both. Although the path is technically not demanding, it requires walking on wobbly granite slabs, constant attention and a careful step.

This tour interests me for Wednesday Thursday... Two days... Somehow I can't figure it out exactly... I'm wondering where I can most easily get information on conditions, and also info on huts where I could stay overnight. Thanks for info

stilc88 - if starting from Dösner valley just type Artur von Schmidhaus Hütte into the net and you'll have all data you're interested in - contact, weather. Call the hut and get all info. Weather forecast not best, especially not Thursday and wind unpleasant too.
