Buying climbing shoes for a beginner

Print

Favoring one brand makes no sense, at least until you try all the brands and models that our country has to offer.

People are different, what fits varies from individual to individual, climbing technique and knowledge differ, just like chewing gum brands.

Some like thin rubber, others a bit thicker and stiffer shoe on the foot.....

So please, don't post here what is "the best".

Try one model of climbing shoes, if it's not OK for you, next time buy something else and based on the first climbing shoes you'll already know approximately what you want from the shoe.
What fits me doesn't necessarily fit Janez and vice versa.

Learn from experiences, life will be much nicer. velik nasmeh

Best regards.

Instructions for buying climbing shoes for beginners in brief:
try as many comfortable beginner climbing shoe models as possible,
don't buy too small hoping they stretch,
don't worry about climbing shoe lifespan (they all wear out fast, especially for beginners),
don't dig too deep into your pocket, but don't skimp on comfort, …

Well, some stretch quite concretely. Otherwise the Decathlon ones don't seem bad to me at all, and much cheaper nasmeh

Neph, when the rubber wears out, there's no need to buy new climbing shoes right away, especially if you're mostly 'indoor' now. You can repair them at Tomažič: http://www.informacija.net/cevljarstvo-stivale. He makes caps (i.e., new rubber on toes) very solidly. If you bring them when not too worn, tell him to change just the sole. After trying more, at Tomažič you can have Five Ten rubber glued on e.g. Sportiva shoes. Btw, I like Five Ten for small edges on slabs and Evolv velcro for the rest, quick on/off. Velcro and slippers are the law for the lazy mežikanje

Ouch, why would anyone want to ruin Sportiva shoes with 5.10 rubber? velik nasmeh Vibram is top!

Because experimenting brings insights. Just as you adore Sportiva, I love Five Ten. Otherwise, you can put Sportiva rubber on Boreales... Better for you? jezik

Hehe, better velik nasmeh

Joke aside - the best are those that fit the foot the nicest - be it 5.10, Scarpa, La Sportiva, Andrea Boldrini, Ocun or Evolv. For me Katana fits best, so I stick to them. I've tried a sea of models, lately the hyped Scarpa, but they don't fit. First comfort, then rubber. mežikanje

What about the color - which one do you recommend? Should it match the eyes or the chalk bag color?

Can the chalk bag be from another brand? How do different brands match? Surely it matters whether everything is mixed or not? I'm asking so nothing goes wrong later.

SamoK, you'll have to ask that on the Cosmopolitan forum mežikanje

Oh yeah, did I make a mistake? I thought I was there because there's so much talk about gear and brands, as if that's the most important thing. (With matching colors, of course.)

Samo, are you going to take her? mežikanje

Hello!

I already asked on another forum, but got unserious answers. My colleagues and I decided to go try something interesting and we chose Triglav. I'm interested in:

- Where to start so the path is shortest and approx how long it takes? (I have some fitness, go to Šmarna gora every Saturday, now in summer also during the week.)
- Checked for hotel, wonder if there's an OK hotel on the way to Triglav? Saw Kredarica, no hot water (?!), dorm beds, bad toilets,.. Last thing I want is to sleep with some sweaty mountaineer. Well, I'd like to wash like a human too. Anything else besides Kredarica?
- Is there a shop up there so no need to carry everything? Colleague seriously says there's Spar at Kredarica, but I feel he's kidding, can't find on Google.
- Footwear: sports sneakers enough in summer now? Tried hiking boots in store for fun, but heavy and ugly. Probably no snow mid-July, right?
- If anyone knows: where in LJ to find nice women's backpack (warm colors)?

Best

SamoK, every brand of climbing shoes has certain properties good to know before buying - especially stretchiness is one of them. But you know that already, right? mežikanje

Hi, I'm buying a second pair of climbing shoes, because the first Mad Rock Drifter no longer performs as it should. Currently choosing between
Scarpa vapor V, tenaya oasi
tenaya ra, so I'm interested in your advice. nasmeh
I climb mainly indoors on boulders and occasionally outside on rope.

From your description I conclude that you're not a serious climber. So get the cheapest shoes (anything is good for plastic). But they have to fit at least reasonably well on the foot...

Zebdi15. 06. 2018 10:34:15
Eh, I wouldn't fully agree that everything is OK for plastic. Mammut had some weird rubber a few years ago and with that you slipped even from the biggest holds.

@Sitback: don't take too aggressive models, but still it's worth getting something with good rubber. Try lots of models, you'll see which ones fit you best. Iglusport has Sportiva Katana for 78 EUR now. If it fits your foot, you've won. Vapor V is in the range of Katana, of the Tenaya models rather take RA.

Maybe check Decathlon too, if they can supply Simond - Vertika. For 70 EUR they can be a best buy velik nasmeh
