There are several marked trails. One to planina Krni Dol, then to planina Larice and Pecol. All planinas are connected by a road closed to public traffic. Best option is parking halfway on the road Na Žlebeh - Pecol, my last described variant.

Why start in the valley; I prefer starting from the pass V Žlebeh-S Nevea. Trail start is marked at the big parking right under the ski slope. Last time (early this month) the first car from planina Pecol stopped for me to go back down. And on foot via planina Larice isn't that terribly far, of course if you decide for walking back. But you can count on fewer cars up on Saturday and thus fewer hitchhiking chances. Good luck and steady step

Thanks for replies. Somehow leaning towards mirank's variant. Starting point meant that a bit lower, where the trail to Pecol turns sharply right at the left bend? Regards

@mirank, my variant is 300 elevation meters higher than you suggest

I believe it's true, but haven't tried that variant yet. Definitely less walking if you go all the way on foot! Anyway, the starting point I suggested is 100m BEFORE the junction to Pecol-Altopiano del Montasio.

On Saturday I walked the whole Ceria Merlone from Nevejski Pass up over Scalini saddle, over Škrbina Prednje Špranje and circularly down past Brazza and over planina Larice. Really looong looong tour. But unforgettable and worth every effort..

Yesterday we walked the entire Ceria Merlone. Very little snow, in some gully, none on the ledges. We didn't use crampons, took ice axe in hand only on some shorter sections. Still, great caution is needed on sections where rocks are just sprinkled with snow / partially icy.

27.8.2016 walked Ceria Merlone, which is truly a path for the soul... Beautiful crossing of the Poliska Špiki with beautiful views. Protections (cables) dosed just right, the path allows some scrambling and enjoying the rock. Whoever expects a path equipped with taut cables and numerous pegs and brackets (there are none on the path), better not venture onto it. Definitely agree with T. Mihelič who marked the path as "an inevitable duty tour for every true lover of the Julian Alps)".

How is it on the Ceria Merlone path? Is it passable without winter gear? Thanks.

Like this at first glance I'd say yes! On Sunday from Nabojs Montaževa north face was dry, same Viševa, in Gola NE some patches. The ridge back from Montaž to Viš looked dry from the north side. In 2014, that summer when snow lingered where it usually melts, even late July and August, the Corsi hut warden once in early August told me that Ceria Merlone was snow-free. Just in case call there. The warden spoke English then. http://www.tarvisiano.org/code/39973/Rifugio-Corsi

On Ceria Merlone, Leva path dry. From bivak Suringar towards Amalia some little snow that can be bypassed. Gola Nordest na Vis has some snow in the gully at 2200m height, which shouldn't pose problems, at least not for us. Checked 01.07 Good luck

This is how the Forca de lis sieris saddle looked before entering the climbing section on Špik nad Nosom on 19.6.2017. Only the lower snowfield had to be crossed, which wasn't difficult, the path ahead moves away from the snow.

Great, with a bit of cloud cover probably also less hot.. Walking time probably around 10-11 hours?

@djimuzl ... not that much. We did it in 8 hours with extras included. Timetables are always tricky though, since everyone has their own pace. Better to plan more than too little . We really hit the weather perfectly, fog occasionally provided shade but also mugginess. Still we were beaming with satisfaction

Thanks! I've been at both "ends" of this path, but never walked the whole thing.
