Choosing hiking boots

Print
aomerzel4. 06. 2009 11:43:40
Please, can someone help me choose summer hiking boots.
I'm a woman with shoe size 41, which means I need larger hiking footwear, so I have to choose from men's models, which are mostly too wide for me. Can you advise which manufacturers have narrower models, or even women's models with larger sizes (43)?
Thanks in advance for the answers, Andreja

Alpina makes long and narrow models.
Best to visit Iglu Sport, where they have shoes from several manufacturers and a large selection of quality shoes.

In Alpina they make boots to measure for you.

I have Alpine boots now and I'm not satisfied with them. Is there a bigger store at Vič, because in BTC Iglu had only a couple of boots.

In Alpina they didn't make custom boots, but had three different widths of lasts, but they don't anymore. I have Planika boots, which I'm very satisfied with.
I got them the cheapest in Vrhnika (Triglav PRO model)

Maybe check in Hervis, I have a very narrow foot and got last year's La Sportiva model much cheaper than in Iglu.

Winter ones I got at http://www.dumo.si/ and very satisfied! Best, Andrej

For narrow feet, which I have too, Scarpa (not all models), La Sportiva, Fitwell (Rock model) praised by Marjon, also Garmont Tower, which I tried, are comfortable and side-supported and stable, only the sole drags forward or backward on step, the middle doesn't grip much. I don't know what to buy either, all around 200 euros.

Andreja: La Sportiva makes women's boots from size 36 to 43 also in half sizes.
23.5. bought this year in Hervis BTC last year's Cermis woman model reduced from 149.99 to 99.99 EUR. Maybe worth checking.
Viharnik: Garmont Tower model year 2008 bought in Iglu sport Vič January this year approx. 120 EUR - very satisfied, no complaints; slightly harder sole, but doesn't 'drag neither forward nor backward' (don't understand). Look, maybe find last year's model somewhere. http://www.garmontusa.com/841088211.html

Thanks Gorska koza. I'll try more models, check prices too and decide on something. But the price for a full-year stronger boot is negligible compared to summer via ferrata "slippers", so I'll think some more.
This one is also praised, but not expensive, around 160eur1

Thanks everyone for the answers.
I'll look for something from Scarpa, because the La Sportiva Trang S Evo isn't good for me either mrk pogled It's a real problem though, because our stores aren't exactly stocked with all models (I've already walked through all from Maribor, Celje, LJ-BTC and Zagreb). Haven't looked at hiking boots in Hervis though.

I wear boots in summer from Janez Dolenc from Pragersko company JADO Dragonja vas 1a 2326 Cirkovce tel.02-789-01-06 mob.041-677-228, they are narrow models, when I started wearing them they were hard and uncomfortable, I walked shorter tours in them, but once you get used to them you feel really great in them. In winter I wear from Alpine model for automatic crampons. Nice regards from Čemšenik.

I myself have a small (37) and narrow foot. Hard to imagine you'll get a narrower model than those offered by La Sportiva, I walk in La Sportiva Trangotrek (summer) and La Sportiva Nepal (winter).
Why not buy boots from the manufacturer you've worn so far? I also have a men's Trangotrek because at that time they didn't have women's yet.

Don't skimp on boots. But you need to know where and how much we'll walk so suitable footwear for the terrain. Buy footwear in the afternoon when the foot is a bit swollen and never with double socks. That was also the advice from Alpina expert on TV. My wife and I checked this rule and it holds. Take time for purchase, because if you buy badly you buy twice which is expensive in the end.

I think even if you do just a few trips a year to the high mountains you should treat yourself to the best possible boots. mežikanje

It's true that we have only one pair of feet. But I've walked with all sorts of things. First with Planika, which is just a bit better than sneakers, then dad bought me Maidel from Germany yr.84, I thought I was walking in amphibious boots, because on water (then Gore-Tex) it worked fantastically, sole excellent, rubber gripped exceptionally, I had them for a very long time. Later some Scarpa, which is one of the few still manufactured in Europe. I have low La Sportiva, and after barely two years the heel at the back is worn out - made in China of course! Nowadays I think there are no bad boots anymore, many manufacturers just in Italy and all try their best for their bread. You just need to choose one that fits the foot, check the origin of the product. Also Scarpa Ladakh is an excellent leather hiking boot. I don't know, those newer artificial mountaineering boots don't fit me at all, Tower has at least a bit more leather around. I'll stick to Andrej's advice. Lp

Eh, as far as I'm concerned, I swear by Planika, bought them about eight years ago, and they still hold. They are indeed harder and it takes time to break them in, but they still hold. Meanwhile my buddy had problems when the sole literally peeled off his Alpina boots (with different models) twice in a season.

I use Alpina model VX-953, and so far no complaints. But it's true, as Viharnik says, that every manufacturer tries to make a good boot. But I think with boots it's like with tires on the car. Don't skimp...!

I myself mostly wear Planika.
Good offer seen in Mb, Lecler, Peko store.
In regular sales they have quite a few Planika models, in the sale they had I think only women's models, approx 40% off,....
price was around 85€.

Until last year I swore by Alpinine boots, then I bought Garmont and have to say it's an excellent boot for high mountains.
So I'd suggest everyone try as many different boot brands as possible. In the end it'll be easier to choose a model that fits your foot.
Let me mention some brands: Scarpa, Kayland, La Sportiva, Garmont, Lowa, Boreal, Mammut.
