Civetta (3220)

To the starting point, you need to go to Val di Zoldo, more precisely to the village Stari Pecol (Pecol Vecchio). Rafko parked yesterday morning right above the village near Cas. del Zorzi, then we went right past the lower station of some lift, and up the ski slope, where after a few minutes we reached the marked path 556, which leads directly from the village up. We followed this path, along which we reached a supply gravel road along which we continued to Cas. di Pioda. There we turned left uphill onto the path that brought us to hut A. Sonino al Coldai. The views were beautiful all the time both to our princess and to the neighboring prince (Monte Pelmo), who reigns over the valley. At the Coldai hut we made a short stop. We had already met a talkative man about 80 years old, with whom we exchanged a few words. From the hut we continued almost level along a nice path, which at some point rises slightly along cables; of course, this is not yet the start of Ferrata degli Alleghesi, which starts at the foot of Punte Civetta. There we equipped ourselves properly and started one of the longer protected paths. There were no major difficulties; only a short chimney stands out somewhat, but like the whole path it is nicely equipped and secured. The path in the upper part is nicely varied and by no means boring, since one has to go around a bit. Somewhat annoying are a few 100 m of scree; a short ridge section follows and we were already at the top. There was some fog, and also some sun, so we sat at the top for quite a while. On the path we overtook seven of them and met one descending. From the top we descended the southern path; one needs to be careful due to scree and soon reached the hut or rather bivouac Torrani. Again a short stop followed, then down Via normale, which due to its length should not be underestimated; at several places the cable helps. Under the huge wall of Civetta, which comes into its own only when you are under the wall, we reached the scree slope, which somewhat eases the descent. Below we caught path 557, along which we reached the gravel road and then to the car. Thus after 9 hours we completed the loop that offers more than you can expect.
In the evening we "relocated" to hut Auronzo under Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Palafavera (1514 m), a bit before the camp right by the ski slope on the left side (opposite the camp) there is a road that directs you to the pasture, right after the dairy there is the path to hut Sonino al Coldai (2132 m), to here you'll take an hour and a half, everything further depends on the weather, to the first cables you'll get soon (here you don't need ferrata kit yet, then entry to first notch and second, at huge rocks turn right, where it's also marked for ferrata Alleghesi, our
path was foggy to here (hour and a half), entry to ferrata and arrival at summit depends on individual's strength and resting, partly on weather, ferrata is 900 m long, rushing can tire you a lot. From summit to hut Torrani (2984 m) good half hour, here obligatory short rest before entering Via (ab)normale, which is dotted with cables and poor markings (stick to more right direction, right here we got lost for a while, if fog gets you here slow your pace
even more, after exit a steep scree slope awaits you, then cross snowfield and continue left towards hut Sonino al Coldai, after short time you'll enter second notch and then first to
hut, back to pasture where rain caught us (obligatory dry weather) and back towards Palafavera, if you're faster or weather allows, left there is chairlift that for 7 euros takes you to autocamp. Runs until 17.15. Altogether 13 hours (fog, rain, partly cloudy, sun for sample). Rest in camp. Autocamp Palafavera is very well equipped and has everything, for one night (two persons+car+small tent) 21 euros. From camp also path to hut Venezia under Monte Pelmo in good two hours you get there, but path is extremely slippery (rocks and roots).
And advice, all going to Civetta take enough water (2 l per person), water can be refilled at Coldai hut (behind hut there is tap). At autocamp reception you get also brochure with paths to Pelmo and Civetta with surroundings.

On Saturday we did the tour to Civetta. The tour was planned for Sunday, on Saturday small plan only ascent to rif. Coldai, but on Saturday against forecast fantastic day happened, but for Sunday forecast was extremely bad and we decided to push up on Saturday afternoon. Start from valley Val di Zoldo, from rif. Palafavera at eleven, short break at rif. Coldai and leaving unnecessary stuff, then ascent towards ferrata. Ferrata nice, airy and long (900 m altitude), excellently secured. On upper parts of ferrata some snow, we met some who turned back because of snow, but we no big problems, but caution was not superfluous. On ridge and summit nice views, especially to west and north side, towards Marmolada and Cortina, then descent towards rif. Torrani and after dark back to hut Coldai. Descent long and a bit tricky, Italians are known for excellent markings, but finding them in dark is fine work. In hut we were around one in the morning, for whole tour 14 hours. Then long sleep, tomorrow everything closed as per forecast, we pushed down to pizza, beer and home ... pictures follow ...

We were also on Civetta in summer and I have to admit that Via Normale seemed perfectly well marked to me, especially now it's very nicely secured at all places where needed. Apparently a couple of years ago it was a bit wilder. But on the scree slope it's anyway quite hard to mark anything and I believe at night it's quite a problem to find. We went from Casera della Grava, which is a much more comfortable starting point for a day tour. But okay, you planned an overnight stay, and it turned out that way ...

@Jax: it wasn't much of a problem, but in the dark you don't see far ahead, and you have no sense of the direction in which to go. Then everyone waits until the first one finds the marking, then we go on, etc. Sleeping in Torrani wasn't an option because the forecast for Sunday was bad, which proved accurate, so the descent on Sunday would have been a problem. And we were all experienced enough and prepared for a long descent in the dark, the only thing in such conditions, if you don't know the path and it's your first time somewhere, it drags on a lot. The rest was no problem, nice tour, demanding and long, on Sunday the keeper at Coldai told us that in normal conditions Coldai - Civetta - Coldai in 10 hours good weather, we walked 11 of which 4 in the dark ...

But we too, when descending around 10 towards Palafavera, managed to recognize four lights high up staggering on scree; we knew it was you because the hutkeeper told us everything and joked how the hell he would unlock the hut for you and that you'd sleep outside when you arrive after midnight... nasmeh Greetings from your Porečani from the winter course!!!

Don't complain, it seemed strange to me, you know I wouldn't doubt such two guides, but the main thing is that you carried ice axes jezik Anyway, hats off for the activities and nice ascents, we got a bit stuck with the kids so we're waiting for them to grow a bit so we can more easily sneak out of home nasmeh We'll hear from each other, if you plan something local to climb, call! Cheers
