Cows, sheep, goats... on mountain roads

I think the debate is straying from describing conditions on Mojstrovka. If cows don't know the highway code, the driver should know the meaning of the traffic sign by the road to Vršič. Google street view

How some of you foam at the mouth over cows on the road. Unbelievable. VanSims said it bothers him, someone else it doesn't. What's right and what's wrong is as usual somewhere in between. Do we have to insult and send someone somewhere now? Yesterday my acquaintance said, "I went to hribi.net to check some trips and they're quarreling over some cows" . Anyway, to tell one anecdote from our parts. A guy had a girlfriend from a farm, stayed overnight at her place. Early morning while he was still sleeping, they had livestock transport to the slaughterhouse. While herding cows onto the truck a cow escaped, slipped on the mud, fell sideways onto the guy's car hood, then to the ground and with hooves smashed the bumper, fender and light. Given the low car value, it was a total loss. And what's the lesson of this true story? Help herd the livestock instead of sleeping. Lp

Becar, you're just like VanSims You arrive like him when they drive cows up to the mountains and disappear when they drive them back down, rolling your eyes Given that you defend him just as much as he's pissed off, are you related or do you have something more intimate maybe

... and you're a master @VanSims! Let's leave the cows and see what else bothers you "... Little Slovene guy of course, who terrorizes tourists! ...(probably meaning the cow owner). And I also say ...Little Slovene guy of course ... who immediately drives off and parks lower because besides cows he's bothered by or it's in the way of the "parking lady" !

I suggest opening a new thread dedicated to all who are bothered by cows on mountain roads.

@Daaam: up your ass or to Philadelphia, right? (if you're too young, let mom explain) @Laščan: Good Point! Then they even dare to collect parking fees! One of my opponents even took the time to comb through Vršič road on Google Maps to find that sign (which by the way doesn't justify releasing livestock on the road at all) Then I'm obsessed obsessed with cows?

@VanSims: Now I even went to check what the moon is like But let's leave it. I still think these talks don't belong in this section.

VanSims come on don't be so picky and look at the world from a nicer side. You'll feel better right away. I don't know how everything can throw you off track like that. If everything and everyone in Slovenia bothers you so much, nothing prevents you from going abroad. Although I doubt it's all so much better there as you want to see. With outbursts like you have in this livestock on the road case, which the sign next to it also warns about, you're becoming a bit heavy. I remember last year in Bovec talking to a Belgian couple and such a close encounter with sheep on the road thrilled them. They said they felt like they actually came into genuine contact with nature, icing on the cake was the scenery of surrounding mountains for them. They came to Bovec over Vršič and encountered sheep on the Bovec side.

Cows and sheep on the road to Vršič or Mangart saddle probably really aren't problematic. No problem waiting a minute for the animals to move aside, speeds aren't that high either to pose a collision danger. But last time I drove from Bohinj towards Pokljuka and on the road section where you can drive pretty fast (soon after Gorjuše village) I ran into cows calmly strolling on the road, without any shepherd. They were behind a bend and it seemed quite dangerous to me. Probably there was some sign by the road but still I think cows without supervision don't belong on that road.

In Bohinj farmers once solved the parking issue by sprinkling salt around cars on the grass and then releasing cows to graze around the cars.

Why do some of you have so much against cows, they are golden cows , they give us milk from which sour milk, cottage cheese, cheese, cream, butter (we call it puter) are made...all that was main back then besides grain, which they sowed on steep terrains and took to the mill to grind and got flour from which housewives baked excellent bread. It horrifies me how some undervalue cows, everyone has the option to buy/rent a farm and start farming and will value it much more.

@Ziga22: Back when folks were more patient they could mess around like that. Today when they know you can't fool around with people like that anymore they are more sophisticated and have parking meters and exorbitant fines for not using them. They complained back then and still do today that their tourist traffic is declining. Who could understand them... Otherwise I notice those with the most insolent and primitive comments get the most pluses, those who nicely express disagreement with what I wrote (which they fully have the right to) get one or none (read: most likely a bunch of minuses) Bravo, Slovenia, keep going like that! Switzerland won't escape you, maybe even African!

I don't know what's wrong with VanSims saying his opinion, it was fun for me... Responses are typically Slovenian, nothing to it.

Probably salt around cars isn't sprinkled only by Bohinj folks but also Italians. But that not around cars but right on them. I don't have any hard proofs but two days ago I was quite surprised how nicely cows worked over my car on the parking lot under Calvi hut in Carnic Alps. Entire car as far as they reached they licked thoroughly for me, turned both outside mirrors, and to top it off with horns left permanent marks on sheet metal and plastic that only a body shop can fix. Otherwise nice trip this way gets a bit bitter aftertaste but still you ask who has greater right to be there, car or cow. Luckily such cases are few and it has to be taken into account somehow. Even where no cows some "cow" can hit you so no sense overreacting.

Has damn luck it wasn't my car. I think he'd remember for the whole life when he last did that.
