Cuel da le Barete

Dunja's problem lies in its geology - soft rabelj slates, surrounding peaks consist of solid Triassic limestones. In heavy rains swollen torrents erode them, slopes subject to erosion, landslides... mentioned paths 655, 651, conditionally 619 go through heart of valley. Who walked them knows over how many gullies, broken torrent beds, landslides, fallen trees to cross. Maintained by CAI Čedad section (619 CAI Gorizia). Latter care for 640 to their bivouac then Norina to Strma peč. Also there 2009 big landslide destroyed metal bridge over Dunja.
Year by year maintenance troubles and high costs for these paths (regarding popularity, truth be told only 640 - Norina ferrata gets visits, others mostly deserted) forced them to abandon them, became too objectively dangerous. Now in Dunja also 652 to Foran de la grave saddle (4-5 yrs ago landslide buried path), 649 destroyed many places: under Vrh Brda (Monte sechiez o berda), gully torn, wooden bridges original worn out, between Cuel del Pezom & Monte Gosado path eroded spots, cables broken, not to speak of ledge under Visoka špica & slopes under Visoki Pipar. Path subject to erosion yearly. Most average hikers care only Poldašnja špica & Dve špice in Naborjetskih gora ridge - for latter prefer 648 (also erosion prone - or 605). How many fully hiked 649? (over 15km long!) In future years expect more closures in Western Julians - not just Dunja but wider.

nasmeh I forgot something else, path 652 we largely cleaned of shrubs 2 yrs ago as it was abandoned for many yrs, this yr new signs and marked some necessary spots, full marking we will finish in 2013; path 651 now from Grego hut ends at main Dunja road (approx mt.1005) near small Zacchi chapel (already visible on new 2011 018-019-027 TABACCO maps), where hikers usually park cars if they go on "via di Dogna", at least marked to start of 652, plan new signs and finish marking 2013 if time allows in free timemežikanje

Since my question concerns also Barette, I posted it here.

So I'm interested if anyone has current info on path 621 (start at Pecol), partially destroyed by fire in 2013.

Thanks and best regards

On 22.5. this year Daniele Virgolini hiked this path and wrote some words about the path itself on this page (see comments described on the right margin):

Or you can ask CAI Tarvisio:

Good luck!

On Saturday after the unsuccessful ascent to Jovet, we continued towards this hill. Path 620 from Patoka is a real walking trail to f. Galandin, where the markers gave up and from there on you need to carefully pick your steps at a few places when crossing gullies. Path 619 from Cadramazzo (Kodermaci or Čedrmaci?) is abandoned but obviously still passable, as a larger group from central Slovenia came up it. I assume (if logistics allow) this is also the best choice for a circular tour with return via Patoka, as we didn't notice a junction in the Livinal gully area.
Still, path 620 is very interesting, which surprises with the steepness of the terrain and depth of gullies, given the low elevation of these hills. On the return, just during the tragic events on Kanin, we looked up there how it's still snowy. Obviously snow patches on north slopes will last quite some time.

The junction is right there where the sign for Cima Robinia is in the Livinal gully, but about 50 m of the initial path section has been washed away.

Has anyone been up there in spring? I'm interested in terrain passability, possible winter damage etc.

Yesterday on the trip of all trips, "to die for" I'd say, wouldn't exaggeratenasmeh.
Cuel de la Bareta, now covered in yellow flower carpets, modest height but views grand as highest peaks.

Previously unknown peak to me, but early in the year on PD Šk.Loka planned trips list I wrote two exclamation marks. So as not to miss it by chance.

Into this wild world of deep gorges, ragged gullies and waterfalls (Rio Galandin, Rio Fontanis, Rio Cadramazzo) we headed from Patoc village. We climbed above these gullies, whose depth we only guessed, sometimes carefully crossed them, or quenched our thirst at their waters.
Our views were drawn to steep walls looming over us, staring at sharp ridges, or we admired well-grown pines leaning even on edge of steep sections. Returned via path no. 619, which was recently known as collapsed and hard to pass. Yesterday it showed as picturesque path allowing deep looks into gorges, world of pools and falls.

Summit like fairy tale. Most attracted me was panorama from Montaž to sky-piercing Juvet peaks, wild world as I read in rarer reports. Mountain backdrop that takes the breath away, image that excites and you can't help admiring, simply enchants.

Trip for the soulnasmeh!

After almost five years we went again to "Baretka". This time we decided on a circular tour - up from Cadramazzo and back through Patoc. Path 619, on which CAI stopped maintenance, is almost perfect - only one or two spots slightly damaged. Path 620 to Patoc is officially "inagibile". First sign for that we saw when we had practically already passed it - at the path junction above the village. Actually it is as someone added to the sign "Si puo passare...". It is passable, but with a lot of caution. Condition is such that any stronger rainfall could quickly worsen it further and question is what winter will bring...

More about this unforgettable beautiful tour and more photos on the link...
