Because you made an ad. And because I have vacation. And it's raining. I went to the store. Every store in Ljubljana has a larger selection of gear for mountains and alpinism and climbing than in the mentioned one. Despair!!! No choice - because I need a new mountain helmet - in this store they had today 3 Petzl ones - the same ones and one xy!!! In every Kibuba, Iglu, K2 alpinist, Anapurna, .... much larger selection. If you want unknown brands and cheap you can even buy some "waterproof" jacket, fleece, lower part of hardshell.... but prices of known brands Petzl, Merrell... are completely comparable with Ljubljana ones, where there's much much larger selection. Good that I also went to visit relatives, otherwise I would really curse the ad for this shack on hribi.net.... waste of time, gas.... And no, nobody speaks Slovenian and all are even more arrogant to customers than ours!

In Decathlon you can get certain things for ridiculous prices compared to the offer in Slovenia. The quality of what I bought was top.

As I saw, they have Simond crampons and ice axes in these stores. Is this brand worth anything?

Yes true, Simond they have quite "a lot" in stock (saw even some ice axes for winter mountaineering - two even appealed to me, different sizes, but so high off the ground that I didn't bother to climb to see them up close. Salespeople weren't in sight anyway.

In Decathlon it's worth buying basic gear, clothes: t-shirts, fleece, the rest I bought either online or at Sportler (since it's in my town): mountain boots, winter jacket, socks, backpack, headlamp etc. only North Face jacket they got me in ...BIH where batch with defect came discounted (100 euros for jacket with soft-shell insert). Price of gear with known brand has no lower price in Decathlon. Equivalent offer as in Deca found in Intersport where they have their English house brand.

I was in Decathlon several times in Udine but there except some small camping gear I bought nothing. Definitely in Sportler, and at home in Iglu much more and better quality stuff

There's no comparison in the quality of stuff between Decathlon and Iglu?! That's about like comparing Zajo and Mammut! But it's nice to write one's experiences here. Little money - little music!

Running gear is really pretty cheap, anything else from them I haven't bought yet.

For tents I absolutely agree! Technical gear though there's no quality comparison.

Quechua 2 seconds tents are phenomenal.. we have two and they are very practical. In the morning you pack up in 5 minutes. Also running and bike gear is good, I run practically only in their gear. For high technical gear they aren't at the level yet. Maybe in the future.

With these "house" brands the biggest problem is lack of consistency in quality. You're never quite sure what you'll get. If I take Intersport's McKinley - some things are so badly made, from worst materials, that after short use and few washes they start losing shape and properties (when washing I normally follow manufacturer's instructions). Hiking t-shirts and shirts start pilling where contact with backpack?! Or shrinking. Meanwhile some serve me for long years without issues. I'd even say I have better consistency experiences e.g. with Hofer's Crane - which is extremely cheap, but always delivers basic usability and exemplary durability. Can't say that for McKinley, because it's not that cheap, but priced in between, and disappointed several times. But design is better than Hofer's stuff and more usable cuts. From Quechua I have e.g. rain hat, which after first wash (per instructions) lost water repellency. Repeat: rain hat lost water repellency. But later I found out - in comments on their website - that many of their products lose water repellency after washing. And I doubt people are such idiots pouring softener and washing at high temperatures. So I don't know what to think, because on the other hand I'm not tempted to pay 200€ for some almost basic Mammut pants.

Does anyone have any info on how the store in Lj. BTC is progressing? Will it open soon? It's a shame for me, as many products from the Italian Decathlon webshop are not in stock in Miljah although they could send them free to that store; problem if item too big etc.

I hope so because I haven't seen anything on the web yet, not one info. Whether they're really doing something now there, I haven't been there for a long time. Thanks for info.
