I'm wondering when they start collecting this toll, I haven't seen this info anywhere, not even on the Austrian side. I only know it's in summer time, not in winter. Exactly when - where do the May 1st holidays fall?
Dobratsch has been tempting me for a while, maybe we'll soon manage this feat or trip...

It says the city of Villach until today, 15.4.2019, took care of road passability (plowing,...). So I think tomorrow the road will already be subject to toll. Since the website has both an email address and phone, the path to exact first-hand info can't be long mežikanje

We've watched Dobratsch many times but the ascent always slipped...this time we made it, 19 hikers, 15 first time. Weather ideal, no cloud, easy ascent up hunting trail. Views super, one lady said we'll see half Europe again...and yes, almost. Last week from Poldaš Peak towards Dobratsch, today view to our Julian Alps incl Triglav and to Karawanks from Peč-tripoint to Kepa and further to Kamnik-Savinja Alps from Raduha, Olševa, Peč...And to Italy to Montasio with neighbors and highest Austrian peak.. At the top transmitter, both churches, hut, coffee. This time beautiful autumn day, wonderful in summer flowers or winter idyll too, we'll come back...

In the lack of snow for car-to-car skiing, we peeked to the Austrian side and drove to the Alpine road to parking no. 8 on Dobratsch slope.
Group of three hikers and three skiers went on promenade and climbed up the snowy ratracked mountain road to the 2166 m high summit. To the very top with crampons and icepicks. Skied on frozen snow on slopes and partly on road. More at: https://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/151370/

Sunday sunny and windy window on Dobratsch. Freshly ratracked newly snowed road full of walkers, sledders and ski tourers. Slopes with fresh snow skied out, but in places without base, watch for rocky mines. More at: https://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/151538/

We made a visit to the neighbors too before they close the borders on us zavijanje z očmi

We headed to Dobratsch from *podna*, along the former ski slope route. A bit surprised by the bare ground just above the parking. Snow conditions improved quickly with every elevation gained. Plenty of snow in the upper part, especially in wind-packed spots. Very few visitors, only a bit more in the upper promenade section. Given the temps recommend early start hours.

The morning *kopenski* start was a bit of a surprise

A cold wind was blowing, the sun was in no hurry

The lower part of the route is well snow-covered, just right for snowshoes

From roughly the middle of the former route, the path is tractor-groomed

The steepest part is right below the promenade, surprisingly tractor-groomed this time

The landmark of Dobrač … 160 m high communication tower

Družba and the Slovenian church just below the summit of Dobrač

The cross is dedicated to the miners who mined ore in the mountain's depths

Return from the top. We had already removed the snowshoes earlier due to the too narrow track.

The Austrian church is also dedicated to the miners.

We postponed the visit to Dobratsch for two years due to weird times, but in these holiday days it finally came up. Due to mild winter and strong thaw we hoped for at least some snow below, up top as little wind and fog as possible. What we got exceeded all expectations nasmeh

. Excellent snow base from parking to summit, just light breeze and great weather all the way. Views from top fantastic, especially interesting was the sea of fog on our side. Huge crowds, lots of Slovenes from all over. Lack of snow and holidays do their thing.

So once again ... former ski slope from Heiligengeist is currently in great shape, suitable for snowshoers and tourers. For walkers better the highest parking on Villacher Alpenstrasse. There in winter season pay parking at machines, no toll. Connecting road from that parking to Dobratsch Gipfelhaus hut is excellently groomed. For earlier hours recommend microspikes due to icy patches. Same for ridge from weather station to summit.

Coordinates parking (Heiligengeist): 46°36'58.8"N 13°44'51.2"E

Large free parking lot on the edge of the village is completely icy in the morning

Beautiful morning is the prelude to an even more beautiful day

The gentle path variant is crossed by a forest road which does not hinder the ascent

Just below the upper road the sun visits us for the first time

To it we hurry straight up and the steepness quickly shows its teeth :)

We descend the same path. It is the most comfortable and wide enough for all.

More and more people. If you drive to the highest parking lot, you don't need to be early.

Descent is shaded, no frost though. Thaw does its thing and no wind either.

Quite a few hikers overtake us left and right. This one is even color-coordinated :)

Enough space for everyone, no bad moods anywhere ...

Already in the lower part. Descended a bit further right than the morning ascent.

In the morning there were a total of ten cars, now all levels are full.
