Dovška Baba and Hruški vrh
|

Today we set off via the Dovška Rožca pasture to the summit of Dovška Baba and along the ridge to Hruški vrh. The path to the pasture, full of blooming crocuses, is completely dry. The summit part of Dovška Baba and partially the ridge path to Hruški vrh is snowy. The snow is crusty, well consolidated, walking is not difficult. Some caution due to cornices is needed on Dovška Baba and on return via the direct path from Hruški vrh to Dovška Rožca. At some spots in the gullies to cross, there are avalanche remnants with no track over them.

On Sunday I was up there, nice hike, snow gone, crocus flowers moved right under summit, daffodils before blooming, marmots showing best color these days, and can pick dandelions. Greetings all, Franci.

Today we were on Dovška Baba and Hruški vrh. Weather wonderful, daffodils blooming nicer than on Golica, still some snow to frolic in. Recommend, great hike.

Today: on path between Hr.vrh and D.baba, closer to Hr. vrh among dry roots and dwarf pine branches hides or dwells large black viper. Noticed early enough, carefully avoided each other, no incidents.. To avoid misunderstanding, careful, watch your feet!

22 May-Sunday morning; wanted to see daffodils a bit, but not on "pilgrimage" Golica; to Hruški vrh just right for this not too weather-promising day; start from Planina Ravne to hut on Planina Dovška Rožca (by way hut unfortunately still closed for many hikers), to summit Dovška Baba (wind blowing there), then to Hruški vrh (lunch on nice bench) and loop under Baba summit back to Dovška Rožca and start; views not special as Julian peaks hid in ragged clouds, but nearby Kepa nice, of course Mežakla with Jerebikovec, to Hruški vrh path also Austrian Rožca per friendly hiker (not sure if described Koprivnjak-Heinz help) and our Golica (even hut), Stol occasionally; hikers on all slopes, even two cyclists powered to Hruški vrh; path last part overgrown with low pines, but last year black viper thankfully moved , probably to border neighbors; still nice blooming daffodils (fields mainly from Hruški vrh to Rožca), some blue gentian in between, yellow dandelions- beautiful flowering carpet, but due bad forecast and clouds over Julijci no long enjoyment; lp

Yes, that Austrian hut with cross is Koprivnjak or Kleiner Frauenkogel (Mala baba -say Dovška). Small or Austrian Rožca doesn't hold. Rožca, both Dovška and Hruška are pastures (first -saddle between Klek and Hruški vrh) Also on this little peak nice to sit on bench and gaze north ridge Dovška Baba, and valley Austrian side. -pohodnica53: noticeable things going well for you! Ridge path quite interesting, right? Lp!h

@heinz, thanks for help and info ; really very very nice here, when out of forest to Rožca, think you're in green-flowery paradise; worth going on to Hruški vrh, getting used to ridge paths, yes they say school makes masters ; lp

In the morning, my colleague and I drove first through Dovje, then a couple more km to the junction for Baba, where we parked. From here on foot along the road towards Dovška Rožca, but only about 10 min, at the larger weekend house we turned right (first picture). We continued on steep grass behind the weekend house, then along the path past a few weekend houses (shortcut), to the road where there is a barrier and again along the path on the shortcut. Soon we stepped onto the road below Bela peč, which we followed to the place where the road turns right, but we turned left on the marked path into the forest. There wasn't much snow in the forest, so walking was tolerable, but only to the place where the forest ends or just below Dovška Rožca. Here it sinks in places. From the hut to the top the snow was still so frozen that it sank very little. From the top we headed right along the border ridge towards Hruški vrh. In ideal conditions we would have been there soon, but mainly it sank almost to the knees. Unfortunately we made the wrong decision, as the snowshoes stayed in the car, which punished us even more later, then steeply down to the hunting path, along which we reached some kind of clearing that brought us back to the road towards the starting point. After a good half hour we arrived at Hruški vrh, we decided to descend from here along the prominent ridge to Črničev vrh. So I don't forget, the path from Hruški vrh was initially pleasant, but just before the end of the ridge or Črničev vrh it sank to the waist. Here we really missed the snowshoes.. We descended to the road near the place where the path branches right towards the hunting hut, which is located in an idyllic spot, right below the cliffs, and along the road in good 10 minutes we reached the starting point. Essential equipment for today's tour: gaiters and snowshoes in places

Yesterday I nicely repeated the nice trip following your tracks but during descent from Hruški vrh directly along the ridge I "badly" missed the hunting path and went down right to the cliffs followed by "make-up exam" of 300m altitude then along the hunting path to the forest clearing mud aplenty otherwise a very nice trip

strelec, no need to go back up so much, there are several paths there. To which cliffs? If you reached the rocks above the hunting hut - there is a hunting path that nicely bypasses them and descends to the hut (see drawn track). Muddy clearings can also be avoided; where the clearing meets the fence of hruš.planine, in the west direction find the path that goes straight to the hunting hut.

Strelec, better that you went back if you weren't sure of yourself, as there are plenty of traps around there, but that's one more experience . Around there there really is another path, but if you don't know where it is, better to turn back than.. . Hunting paths are just "hunting" and sometimes disappear a bit..

...Dovška Baba - yesterday, path passable to the barrier. Further on the road still quite some snow, but possible without crampons. Path through the bush (left) dry, except at the end a bit of ice. Otherwise a fairly strong wind was blowing, views were fantastic. Also many visitors, chat..

On Saturday we headed from Planina pod Golico towards Hruški vrh. The path is dry, only from Mokotova hiša onwards there is still a little snow, which didn't sink. Wind was blowing and walking along the ridge wasn't exactly pleasant. When returning towards Jesenika planina the wind strengthened even more. The view from the top was fantastic.

I'm interested in what the conditions will be like on Friday at Dovška Baba, given the currently nice weather forecast, especially snow conditions.
